Normally I’m not very good at taking direction.

But when someone hands you a big, fluffy white bathrobe and a pair of slippers, and tells you that you don’t need to take them off until you leave (even to eat), no further prodding is necessary.

I’m here at the Lake Austin Spa, convincing people that chocolate (and butter) is part of a healthy diet. So in between yoga, pilates, and exercise classes, everyone took a break to eat Dulce de Leche Brownies, Roasted Banana Ice Cream, and a few other previously off-limits delights.

Am I a bad influence or what?

After a couple of weeks of a my steady diet of Mexican food and Texas Bar-B-Q, though, I’m a good candidate for a few meals of spa cuisine myself. In between eating some seriously healthy (and delicious, I might add) food, I’m taking advantage of the warm southern sunshine, lounging by the lake, drinking copious amounts of ice herbal tea…and enjoying a heapin’ dose of Texas hospitality.

    a big fluffy white bathroom?
    hee!
other than wearing a bathroom, it all sounds lovely. have a great time!

    • David

Chanelle: Well, I could (once again) blame it on my teeny-tiny laptop screen and failing eyesight. Or I could say my brain is wavering, lolling in an altered state of consciousness!

    ;~}

(and btw: I wish I could wear a bathroom. All this water and iced tea is certainly giving my system a good, and rather frequent, cleansing.)

Look at those WHITE feet! You need to get out into the sun more, darlin’!

Enjoyed your class Friday. I took my brownie home, hid it, and ate it Saturday morning. Come back again, OK?

    • Kami

Agreed, great class on Friday! Thanks so much for coming.

I even got ambitious and used my bumper crop of basil to make Basil Ice Cream and the Lemon syrup with Strawberries for a brunch today. Everyone was suitably impressed – the Basil Ice Cream was amazing. Next I’m gonna curb my mint bonanza with the Mojito Granita!! Yeeeha!

Looks and sounds like you’re having a wonderful time — great for you. I’m sure you can use it in the midst of your book tour and classes. I’m looking forward to seeing you at Ici next week. I’ve been making MORE of your recipes (blueberry frozen yogurt and raspberry swirl — YUMMMM, my favorite so far). By the time you see my book for a signing at Ici, it’ll have some respectable splatters. Safe travels!

Aww, look at those cute little Lebovitz toes all buffed and manicured. Glad you are getting some time to put your feet up, but I do hope that even though it’s a spa that there is a nice cabana boy to bring you margaritas.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your stay in Austin. I SO enjoyed your class at Central Market in Dallas last week! Yesterday, I made the peach ice cream from “The Perfect Scoop” using Fredericksburg peaches that I friend brought me from her recent visit to the Hill Country. It was tres awesome! Enjoy the rest of your stay in Texas, and y’all come back now, heah??

    If I had a foot fetish…lord.
A pastry chef at a spa…a bad influence indeed. That sounds like a ton of fun.

David, I’d LOVE to have your “job”! I enjoy your website and writings very much.
I’m convinced as you are, that chocolate and butter ARE part of a healthy diet. How do YOU explain it?!

    • Soup and Song

    Hello David,

Speaking of taking directions…I just had to drop a line to say that I recently bought The Perfect Scoop and made my first batch of chocolate ice cream, and thanks to your clear instructions, it was a total success.

Sometimes, following directions is exactly what a person needs. So thank you!

    • Allan

Is it ok to use frozen peaches in your peach ice cream?

    • David

Allan: Yes, they should work fine. Just be sure to cook them so they don’t discolor, as indicated by the recipe for fresh peaches.
