    How do you make the design on the top of the cake?

    Super simple! Just use your tongue to smooth out the melty section and recreate the spatual pattern. Nobody will be the wiser.

    Or just eat it.

    When I was at school I used to leave my chocolate bars on the dashboard of my car until it was just melted, but still held together on the surface and only then carefully unwrap and indulge, often by dipping orange segments into it first. The wait for it to melt was a practice of extreme sports style patience but the payoff made it totally worth it! A melted birthday cake back then would have been heavenly!

    Aw, that sucks! It does still look delicious though. I love the swirls on top.

    Oh no. I did that two years ago. I baked a gooey chocolate cake left it in a tupperware cake keeper next to the stove and the sunlight came from the window across my galley kitchen to melt it, while we were at the movies. Kids still ate it, and it was yummy.
