2. The have no idea who Rachel Ray is.

3. They know who Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are, but don’t care.

4. Scientology is illegal.

Flash! It now appears that Oprah et entourage appeared at Hermes after it closed (1845, they close at 1830), and they were not admitted. Does Johnny Depp speak French? We’ll know after Wednesday after we see A Tout de Suite.

Haha–how flattering! Unfortunately, it looks like I’ll have to Forget Paris for the moment. Italy beckons; but save that Birkin bag for my mom!

Well, in Hermès defense, in France when a store closes, it doesn’t matter if you’re the Queen of England (or Adam’s mom in pursuit of a Birkin bag). They’re closed. Oprah just got a taste of life in France..c’est comme ça, David

David – I may be mistaken, but I sort of assumed the fig comment was for me, re: the Babbo dinner? Really though, are figs in season in France? I haven’t seen a single one around — well, except for Picard! Aren’t they September girls?

    • David

Welcome back! Hope NYC was fun …how could it not be? Figs are at the markets here in Paris, I saw some this morning at Richard Lenoir. In the US, there are 2 ‘seasons’ for figs. The first is mid-summer, and the second is around September. The second crop of figs are usually ripen nicely and are much sweeter. I assume it’s the same here?

This was very funny! :) You think we can claim the “bag”?!!!

    • David

Alisa: I’m sure that Birkin bag is already gone… Oprah’s no fool, perhaps she had them deliver it to her hotel!

    damn

Richard MIA and Biba leaves a comment on “O”! I’ll give her a good scolding when we see and hear Jonny on Wednesday. How’s the heat treaten’ vous?

    1. Most Americans think Oprah is a cow. She is so famous she has no idea of common sense. She thinks that because she is rich and “Oprah” she can do what she wants. This is not acceptable in normal society!

    2. Bobby Flay is a joke. He is another idiot. So is Emeril. Rachel Ray is cute but she is a “made for televison” cook. Please give us our Martha Stewart again!

    3. I need a fig recipe.

    • David

I used to think Emeril was silly and foolish, then I met him for dinner, and he was actually a very, very sweet man (he made me cry when he told me a story about not being able to reach a friend in time who was dying of cancer.) I don’t know Bobby but a PR person told me he made “her skin crawl”…I think Martha is due back any day. Hang on!

PS: There’s 100+ recipes for all sorts of fruit desserts in my book, Ripe For Dessert. Figs, cherries, peaches, berries, apples, etc….

David, I love it! your list made me laugh out loud and gave me so many more reasons to love the French and France. My friend Kathy and I have traveled to France twice this year (Jan and March) and it seemed that every time we wanted to get in someplace, we’d see a sign “Ouvert tous les jours sauf…” the day we were there of course! It’s become our motto. Thanks again.
P.S. I met with Susan Loomis in March and she’s the one who told me about your site and your upcoming chocolate class. I know it will be great!
