My New iPhone App

I’d like to introduce my iPhone application. I’ve recently become a convert (er, addict…) to my iPhone and like everyone said, it’s a life-changing device.

I’m still learning about all its capabilities, and I’m rolling out an application that’s a free download. Included in the application are recipes and delectable photographs.

And with the touch of a button, you can dial in to my Twitter feed, where I say things all sorts of inappropriate things, get links to blog entries as they’re updated, and visit my Facebook page.


Another feature allows you to be notified about appearances and when I add recipes to the app. Plus you can get the ‘Buzz‘ and check out my articles and recipes from around the web in one place.


I’m learning all about the possibilities of my iPhone app and am looking forward to expanding on the features, and hope you enjoy it too. The application is compatible with the iPad now; a native iPad app will be available this summer. Unless someone out there wants to send me one now : )

    Congrats, David! :) I downloaded you app on Saturday and enjoyed exploring it so far.

    I think it would be great if you added the possibility to save the content locally on the iPhone, especially – but not only – the recipes. Imagine that I want to cook one of your recipes, but I’m in a remote village with no connectivity whatsoever… (that’s a big problem with a lot of apps, actually.)

    Also, though the french translation is good, it is perfectible (e.g.: mailing list > liste de diffusion, etc).

    And yes, as much as I hate admitting it, I like my iPhone too. Even though the only Macs I ever bought before were Mac-arons!

    I downloaded it the minute I heard about it. The only improvement I can think of: when you tap ‘more’ and the picture of the Racines Cake comes up in the background, it would be great if my iphone could exude the scent. Or, better yet, a piece would appear on a plate by side…can you work on that?

    Thanks so much for this wonderful app! Now I don’t have to squint at the tiny recipe on safari as I look at your recipes on my phone while I cook. Into the kitchen to make your caramels.

    What about other phones? The iPhone isn’t the only smartphone in existence, you know. This is exactly one of the many reasons I returned my iPhone within a month; the smug, exclusivity factor..I didn’t want to catch it haha. What about Blackberries, Droids, etc?

    Yay! So exciting. I’m going to download it right away! It looks fantastic. I just picked up “The Perfect Scoop”, the paperback version. I don’t know why I haven’t bought it sooner, by the way. I can’t wait to try the Panforte ice cream!

    zebulon: Thanks, I didn’t know that there was a way for apps to do that (told ya I’m a newby!), so will look into that next, since it’s a good idea. And I didn’t even know there was a French translation either!

    Sabrina, Valéry & Memoria: I don’t have an Android so wouldn’t be able to assess how the app functions or looks. I’d love to make it available in different formats so if anyone has any ideas, I’m happy to entertain them.

    Lawrence: As mentioned, am waiting to get an iPad because I need to see what it looks like. Their release has been delayed in Europe and was hoping someone would offer to send me one so I could get to it sooner : D

    Awesome thing, must be really fun to develop your own app. But since I’m more than happy with my BlackBerry and have no intentions on getting an iPhone, I’ll just stick to the usual email updates.

    This is wonderful! I have your site bookmarked on my iPhone, and when I travel I check it every week. Your app will make this much easier. I was just recently visiting my mom in Texas and cooked your recipe for roast chicken with carmelized shallots, and she loved it so much she asked me to cook it twice that week. Even though I don’t like sweets or desserts (my vice is anything salty, especially potato chips), I read all your recipes because I love your writing and your photography. I am also a francophile and love reading about your life in Paris. You rock!

    Thanks for the app, David! Did you see my question recently about replacing the butter in a recipe with cocoa butter?

    I don’t recall a question about that, but I don’t have any advice about swapping out cocoa butter for regular butter in recipes since I’ve not done it. If you do try it in one of my recipes, let me know how it turns out. -dl

    This sounds fantastic but please, please, please, make it for the iPad as well! I have both a iPhone and iPad and the cooking apps are fantastic on the iPad and very easy to use in the kitchen. Unfortunately, not many apps are iPad ready yet though.

    zebulon: I contacted the app company about saving the content ‘locally’ in the iPhone and they wrote back:

    “Your app does have an “offline mode” – once they download the data once, if they don’t have an internet connection, they’ll be able to see cached data.”

    Cheryl: I’m still waiting for some kind soul out there to send me an iPad. I can’t create something for a device if I can’t see it…

    Brilliant!!! I don’t have an iPhone yet but apps like yours are a big part of why I plan to get one. Now if only I had some extra money laying around each month for data plan costs. Ah well, that’s hopefully coming soon ;)

    I admit it,I’m a Lebovitz addict. The carmelized chicken recipe is amazing. If it’s Sunday, I’m making the mousse au chocolat from ‘The Sweet Life in Paris’. Few ingredients, incredible flavor, no pretensions. You rock. Grazie Mille, tante belle cose.

    Its great – especially the way you can flip thru the pics like iTunes album covers.

    I’ve downloaded your app on my iPad as well .. but it dont think its fully compatible with the iPad as yet in terms of screen size.
