We’re packin’ up our Euro-skivvies and hitting the beach! I’m heading off on a much-needed vacation, a sunny escape from the mid-winter morosité. I’ll be checking in here from temps en temps and perhaps posting some photos of my fun in the sun, so don’t stray too far.

In the meanwhile, here’s a couple of things to keep you occupied…

timeonline.gif

The Times has come up with a list of the 50 of the World’s Best Food Blogs, and somewhere on that list, I’m on it.

It was nice to be recognized, but even better to be in the good company of many of my favorite food blogs and friends. Check it out, and be sure to read their interview with the über-talented Matt Armendariz of Matt Bites.

Homemade life

Speaking of talented friends, Molly of Orangette has just released her fabulous new book this week: A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table. I was fortunate to get an advance-copy and loved, loved her well-written stories with recipes of a life that included stints in Paris, and beyond.

She’ll be criss-crossing the country on book tour, so if you get a chance, stop by and say hi for me! (Since somehow, they left Paris off her list of stops…)

Over at Tartlette, there’s a lovely write-up and recipe of my super-simple Chartreuse Ice Cream Profiteroles from The Perfect Scoop by Anita of Married with Dinner.

Yowza! When I saw Anita’s beautiful photo of the chocolate sauce cascading down the sides of those cream puffs, if it wasn’t for my concern over how I’d look in my euro-briefs, I’d be churning away right now. For now, I’m just going to have to enjoy the photos and wait until I get back from the beach.

And I will be back.

Maybe.

somewhere on that list, I’m on it.

    And it’s well-deserved!

The list wouldn’t be complete without you on it – your is one of the best! Enjoy the vacation and sunny shores, sounds wonderful about now.

Oh, David! First I gasped, then I laughed out loud when I saw the camo-thong. Enjoy your vacation, and don’t worry about calories – you’ll look cute in it no matter what.

And congratulations on (of course) making the Times list. Well done!

    • Sara, Ms. Adventures in Italy

That was so wrong, showing us that :)

    • michaela

will you be posting photos while wearing that camo-tooth-floss item pictured above? :) i have some photos from french polynesia last year and i wish i were that tan and fit right now. i’m staring out my window at overcast skies, rain, and a flag blowing straight out. thankfully i’m in a hoodie and sweats!

    • Chiot’s Run

Well at least no one will be able to see you in that bathing suite. Boy am I glad we live in the good old U.S.A where those things aren’t common at the beach.

The beach would be nice, I say as I look at the thermometer reading 20 and there’s snow on the ground. Oh well, enjoy your vacation. (Will you be posting photos? including the swimsuit above?)

The skivvies are awsome! I will say hello to Molly for you as she will be passing through Oklahoma City on the 14th. The Profiteroles look fabulous. I just got my copy of The Perfect Scoop from Amazon and I think I will make those this weekend. Have a great vacay! I am sure it is well deserved time off.

Have a great time! We’ll miss you around here though . . .

I guess those of us in Paris can console ourselves by going for chicken and knowing we’re NOT stealing your seat . . .

    • Vivian

I almost forgot. Congratulations on making the TIMESONLINE list! Have a great time at the beach!

    • starman1695

Congrats on making number 5. Where, in Europe, could you possibly dress in so little at this time of year?

    • Stacey Snacks

I don’t care how great your ass is……..you are a brave soul to wear that on any beach!

Stay away from the Jersey shore, they might arrest you!

“Well at least no one will be able to see you in that bathing suit”

    I wouldn’t be so sure of that…

    • Susan

Is that a Camouflage print on that thong? For blending into…?

    Whatever, have a great vacation!

    • Pink Sky

Congratulations on the well-deserved mention and enjoy your vacation!
I hope you find a nice warm beach to have fun in!

    • Paul Ferrara

    You’re #5, congratulations!

    • krysalia

    Congratulations !

and happy hollidays on the beach.

But hey, looks like it’s not a mohair thong, if you remembered that old twit of yours :D.

Too bad, for winter it would have been accurate :D.

    • radish

I saw you being mentioned – congrats!! And in such lovely company. Amazon told me I can’t have Molly’s book til mid-March — grrr. Have a fabulous holiday and enjoy the sun. NYC has been particularly cold. Winter and I are officially broken up.

    • Amanda

Dang–that photo almost made me spit soda all over the computer monitor! Will look forward to lots of fantastic vaca pics… as long as euro-skivvies are not involved. :)

Congrats on being listed on the NYT best foodbloggers list–certainly well deserved.

    • Dani

Have fun! Enjoy all that sun for everyone back in the cold.

    • Linda H

Reminds me of the card I sent to my brother–“Which is worse–discovering that you have put your thong on backwards, or realizing that it still fit?”

    • evy

Congrats on being on that list of top blogs–very well deserved. Your blog is one of my very favorites.
    Have a great vacation!

    • amy

Congrats on being on the list!

I read you daily (or as daily as you post!)

The skivvies…..haha….um. yeah I’m sorry I just have an active (and very wrong) imagination!

    Mmmm…profiteroles….

    • Sarah

One thing for sure Americans do better than Europeans…. swim suits! Big baggy board shorts in Hawaiian prints are looking pretty good to me now.

:-) Wear a lot of sunblock, that tiny little number is going to expose just about everything to the sun. And some bits are just not meant to deal with sunburn.

Have a great trip you brave body baring soul.

    • adrian

Some pretty short legs on your swim trunks there. And didn’t they have them in fluorescent orange or something? I mean, you’ll be pretty hard to spot in all that cammo…
And how long are we going to have to be without your presence here?

    • valentine

Interesting to see how “native” you’ll go.

(I’m not sure all the people demanding pics of you wearing that are said in love. A little too much hooting and hollering in the under-vibe, perhaps….)

And really, it’s the camo aspect that makes it art.

thong + cream puffs = synchronicity

While you were tanning, some of us have been slaving away on their computers, writing. That would be me, except that I should mention that I live on the beach in Santa Monica, California and my bikini lives in a basket by the front door. Actually, I just finished posting an article I wrote about you on my newly launched website,
Paris-Insider.com. To read it, click on the Favorite Links category on my home page. I thought I should pay homage to the person who connects me with Paris (that’s where my heart lives) even when I’m thousands of miles away. I hope you come home rested and ready to continue filling our bellies and our minds with yummy stuff!

    • aquanetta

The camo thong is so stealthy, you can’t see ’em coming.

    • lynda

I love your sense of humor! I just picked up a copy of The Perfect Scoop. After trying some blood orange sorbet from Cannelle et Vanille, I was hungry for more. A great book..with more of your fun wit. Congrats on being named in the top 50! Bonnes vacances! A bientot, I hope!

    • Chez US

Enjoy the sun Camo guy – too sexy!! Congrats on being in the top 50 – we definitely love your site and dream about Paris through you very often!

Hugs to Diane & Jaden …..

    • Laurence

Camo banana hammock for the win!

    • Food Woolf

Matt was telling me that you were threatening to wear the Euro thong…I thought for sure it was a sort of idle threat…I had no idea you were serious! Army camo thong, eh? I’m both impressed and mildly shocked.

    Enjoy your vacances!

And a huge congratulations on the Times listing!!!!!Hoooray!!!!!

    • nyc/caribbean ragazza

Congrats!! I agree that list would have been incomplete with you on it.

    Buon viaggio!

    • Jérôme

    Hi David !
