A Bad Omen?
line

November 21, 2007

I opened my jar of molasses to start my Thanksgiving baking...

Thanksgiving?

I hope this isn't a bad omen.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

awww, David! He's sad but very cute. And he's smoking a cigarette. Happy Thanksgiving :)

Posted by Maryann at November 21, 2007 7:36 AM

Is is a bird? Is it Elvis?

Posted by Mimi at November 21, 2007 7:54 AM

if you flip the lid upside down, it looks like the top of a kitty cat head. (that's one way of looking at it!)

please share, what recipe are you using molasses in?

happy thanksgiving to you!

You should think of it this way: that little tail on the left side of his "face", that must be a tongue. he must be licking his chops from anticipation of deliciousness, and in order to lick one's chops, the corners of one's mouth must be a bit turned down. so no frowns, only chop-licking.

so cute~

it's really like a sad face,haha

Posted by YOYO Cooking at November 21, 2007 9:52 AM

I thought it was another E-Bay Jesus on toast!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by Jeremy at November 21, 2007 10:08 AM

I think it's a bird (the cigarette thing is the beak).

What is this, the food-people Rorschach?

Posted by Tisha at November 21, 2007 10:54 AM

Maryann: I didn't even think about him (or her) smoking. Maybe he (or she) is upset about the upcoming ban! : )

Posted by David at November 21, 2007 10:57 AM

Happy Thanksgiving David. Are you making your ginger cake with the molasse? Thanks again for the recipe, it was a big hit. Very moist and very tasty.

Good luck, David. Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by Marvin at November 21, 2007 12:03 PM

Have a great holiday!

Posted by Bob at November 21, 2007 1:03 PM

It's hilarious, but what's scary is that you look at the inside of lids to get omens.

Can't you gut birds and animals like the rest of us?

Posted by Judith in Yummmbria at November 21, 2007 1:07 PM

Good luck and Happy Thankgiving! For how many people are you cooking?

Posted by Karen at November 21, 2007 1:27 PM

What - French smiley faces that smoke don't like molasses? Your recipe will certainly turn that frown upside down!

And this comment tips you out of the 'aura of 13', heh...

Posted by elarael at November 21, 2007 1:31 PM

I think it's kind of cute...it looks a little like Jack Skellington.
Happy Thanksgiving David.

Posted by Terrie at November 21, 2007 1:36 PM

Well from the molasses' point of view... you're killing it... empty jar = sad.

Posted by EB at November 21, 2007 1:56 PM

Spooky!

Posted by Jessica at November 21, 2007 1:57 PM

Hey, you can say it's Jesus on that lid and then sell it on Ebay. Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by Christina at November 21, 2007 3:33 PM

Are those Grandma's molasses? 'Cause that's what I have and I hope they are "mild" enough for the ginger cake.

Good luck!

Posted by Jules at November 21, 2007 3:42 PM

awww... poor little guy in the lid :)

but think about that : how would you feel after you would have spent days ( even months maybe ! )with the face stucked in some molasse ? :D

Posted by krysalia at November 21, 2007 3:44 PM

happy thanksgiving david!

Posted by charlotte s at November 21, 2007 3:59 PM

Wishing you the BEST Thanksgiving ever, David. I hope you will share your menu with us.

YOur molasses jar does look a bit sad. Perhaps it just wanted to get used.

Posted by Estelle at November 21, 2007 5:11 PM

Haha oh no!! That's pretty funny though.

I hope you and yours have a TERRIFIC, HAPPY, and TASTY Thanksgiving!

Posted by Hillary at November 21, 2007 5:52 PM

Hey, it looks kind of confused. Maybe its a sign of getting hit on the head.

Posted by Vicky at November 21, 2007 7:10 PM

HA! that's hysterical. Happy Turkey Day to you, dear David. xoxo

Posted by Luisa at November 21, 2007 10:11 PM

This reminds me of a site I saw years ago with photos of food (or maybe objects as well) that seemed to look like ghoulish faces.... sorry, can't remember the site.
Happy Thanksgiving to David and all who celebrate it - and to those who don't!
Joan

Posted by Joan at November 22, 2007 3:06 AM

Good luck, and happy Thanksgiving! I'm not living in the US, so I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving on Saturday, and your most-requested ginger cake is going to be making an appearance on the dessert table. I can't wait!!

Posted by Anna at November 22, 2007 4:13 AM

that looks really funny!
and dramatic, in a scary kind of way... brrrr

Posted by maninas: food matters at November 22, 2007 7:43 AM

Happy Thanksgiving! Maybe the Molasses is just a heavy for the Turkey Liberation Front? Then it could be frowning and smoking...

Posted by adoxograph at November 22, 2007 8:33 AM

Too funny. Happy Thanksgiving! xo

Posted by Farmgirl Susan at November 22, 2007 9:53 AM

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope all of your cooking went well!

Posted by delphine at November 22, 2007 11:44 PM
