Win a Cuisinart ICE-100 Ice Cream Machine!

When I found out that Cuisinart had released a brand-new model of their ice cream machine, I asked if they would let me give two away on my site. And I was happy when they agreed!

I’ve been using my ICE-50 for a number of years, which is self-refrigerating, so I can make ice cream and sorbet whenever I want and not have to pre-freeze the canister. It’s the machine I relied heavily on when churning up with the recipes in The Perfect Scoop.

The next generation of this machine, the ICE-100 ice cream freezer will churn up 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream or sorbet with the use of an internal compressor. And now that summer is almost here, it’s the perfect time to add an ice cream freezer to your kitchen.

    Mine is Candied Ginger Ice Cream

    Candied ginger ice cream

    50 g candied/crystalized ginger
    250g milk
    500g thickend cream
    3g sea salt
    85g egg yolks
    100g castor sugar

    50g fine dice candied ginger

    Blend milk and first measurement of ginger on high for a minute.
    Combine the ginger milk, cream and salt in a saucepan and  bring to the simmer.
    Whilst the Ginger cream is heating, 
    combine yolks and sugar in a mixing bowl
    Once ginger cream is at the simmer slowly pour half over the whisking sugary yolks. Mix in remaining ginger cream and return to pot. Heat to 77c(ish)
    strain, cool over ice, refrigerate for at least 4 hours, then, 
    churn according to your new Cusiniart ICE-100’s instructions!
    Then fold through the diced candied ginger before storing or serving.

    My favorite ice cream flavor is definitely chocolate peanut butter. I remember having this as a little kid. I have to say that Ben and Jerry’s chubby hubby is an amazing mixture of my favorite chocolate peanut butter icecream and icecream with pretzels. A winning combination.

    Chocolate and peanut butter!!!
    The base uses either your chocolate sorbet, or a glutinous chocolate custard base. The peanut butter is mixed with a little powdered sugar and salt to the desired taste. Add the peanut butter and have a wonderful swirl to the chocolate ice cream. This sweet and salty mix even tops candied bacon ice cream for the amount of praise it receives.

    Stracciatella, yum…is my very favorite. However I do also love homemade Ispahan, coconut w/cacao nibs…um, caramelized white chocolate and good ole homemade strawberry, or blueberry or lemon for that matter. Sigh…so ready for summer!
