It’s Ready!

Today is the release of my newest book, Ready for Dessert—a hefty volume of my all-time favorite recipes!

Ready for Dessert

You’ll find everything I love in this book, from the Chocolate Chip Cookies that won over les Parisiens to a French inspired Apple-Frangipan Galette. I figured out the secret to truly chewy Peanut Butter Cookies, and frosted Black and Whites finally get their due. I riff on Gâteau Basque (okay, there are two riffs), there’s a cool and creamy Butterscotch Flan, and…at long last, the cookie recipe that I spent almost ten years perfecting.

There’s a brand-new recipe for Irish Coffee Cupcakes with tangy lime frosting, and authentic Italian dark Chocolate Gelato. Plus a Coconut-Rum Cake that I was had to recreate after I thought mine was lifted by a light-fingered (or hungry) housekeeper. Those are just a few of the treats in this collection of over 150 recipes for cookies, cakes, brownies, candies, conserves, beverages, sauces, crisps, ice creams, sorbets, cobblers, and tarts.

Many of you have remarked that you’ve been looking for copies of my first two books, Room for Dessert and Ripe for Dessert. So I’ve handpicked my favorite recipes from those two books (now out of print), completely revised and updated them, with new stories to accompany them, and added more than a baker’s dozen of new recipes to the mix.

This oversized book features sixty lush photographs by award-winning food photographer Maren Caruso and all the recipes are in both standard and metric measurements.

Ready for Dessert is now available at Amazon and at your local bookseller.

For those who live abroad, Book Depository offers free shipping to many countries world-wide.

  • I’m ashamed to say I don’t have a single one of your cookbooks, so this is definitely a must must must must get! Thanks for the Book Depository idea – I live in Australia. Free shipping is awesome, but I think a Butterscotch Flan will be even better.

  • This looks fantastic. I am going to save up for this. Awesome work (:

  • Congratulations David!

  • You have deadly timing, my dear David. I just went on a controlled carb and sugars diet, which I predict will go out the window shortly. sigh, delicious sigh

  • Congratulations David!!! What a great accompanying video. The part w/ the little baby is so precious and makes me want to run home and make a batch for my own :)

  • I’m sorry… did you say something? Something about a book? Because my brain is still a bit addled after watching that video. Must. Have. Those. Cookies.

  • congratulations! i’m lucky to have an old copy of room for dessert that my mom found at a close-out store.

  • Congrats!!!!! What a big accomplishment! How many cookbooks have you written? Truly inspiring.

I think I am going to giveaway one of these on my blog. Besides great recipes, I am sure it is full of some excellent food porn.

I totally would like to see you in your own show on their channel or anywhere else :D.

  • david a HUGE congrats to you!

  • I LOVE YOU DAVID!!!!!

    Congrats!!!!!!!

  • Congrats on this book! I’ve told you on Facebook that I received my copy sometime ago and last weekend I made my first recipe from this book, “Robert’s Absolute Best Brownies.” It was very very good! :) I have one question though, what is the name of the delicious-looking cake that is featured on the cover? It’s actually one of the things that attracted me to this book, and yet I can’t seem to find the recipe for it. I really want to make that cake :(

It’s the Banana Cake with Mocha Frosting and Salted Candied Peanuts, on page 62. -dl

  • Wonderful! I can not wait to get it and start making desserts! Especially the cookies. I haven’t met a cookie I didn’t love. Congratulations!

    Jo

  • I have to wait for mother’s day for my copy… it’s going to be a long month

  • I am so excited for you. I put them on the shelves this morning! I own a small shop in Seattle and am such an avid fan of yours. I make sure I carry all of your cookbooks and the Sweet Life (which was my favorite book last year). I have a fabulous “David Display” as an ode to you right now and an “April in Paris” display…all because of you. You are such an inspiration. One day I’ll be lucky enough to clench one of the spots on your amazing Chocolate Tours. Cheers from rainy Seattle! Megan

  • Yum!
I was hoping for a sneak peak at the recipe for those cookies, David.

    Merci Beaucoup!

    Audrey

  • I ordered the book today, not sure what I’m looking forward to most – the recipes or the funny stories – but in either case, I’m glad it’s “finally ready.”

  • Congratulations David!! I’ve ordered my copy via Amazon; can’t wait! Awesome video! And yes, I agree – you need to start your own baking-cooking show. Please?!!
On another note, my husband and I are trying to rearrange our schedules in hopes of being able to join your Rome gelato tour; fingers crossed!

  • I can’t wait! I love The Perfect Scoop – it’s my ice cream bible. Looking forward to all I will learn from this read!

  • Congratulations! I can’t wait either; The Perfect Scoop was so fantastic I got two copies. (one for the kitchen and one for my bedstand.) I just got my shipment notice from my pre-order Amazon; last I checked it was leaving Las Vegas. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’ll be in the East Bay by the time I head home on BART tonight.

  • I really like the video! It’s great to hear you and see you moving for once :) The cookies seem perfect, as soon as I get the book, I’m baking them.

  • I’m sure another book worth waiting for. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one.

  • Ahem…I’m always ready for dessert so will definitely be getting this book. Congrats!

  • If anyone is curious to see a list of all the recipes in David’s new book, go to Amazon’s websight. A Mr. Fischer has taken the time to create a massive compilation of the very delicious sounding mix of David’s new creations.
    Also the reviews are fabulous!!!

  • Mine just arrived from Amazon. I have all your others, David.
    Congratulations on another wonderful book…

  • Congratulations!

I bought Living the Sweet Life in Paris and instantly loved it. Have been following your blog since then. Looking forward to getting your new book.

  • GREAT video David…can’t wait to cook from your new cookbook and see more video of you hanging out in Paris!

  • Congratulations, David! I’m going to have to devote a whole shelf of my cook book tower to your cookbooks! But..that’s my pleasure! Can’t wait to grab one.

  • Just ordered the book. Congratulations, you have provided me successes over and over, so I’m a fan enough to shell out the bucks!

  • Felicitations! I gave myself “Sweet Life in Paris” for Christmas; will have to find another excuse to purchase this new book… but if “more baking” is involved, I don’t think I really need une excuse supplementaire!

  • I am drooling and lovin it!!!

  • I received mine today after preordering it at least a month ago. It was like getting a late birthday present. I’ve already read through about 1/2 of it and skimmed the rest. My husband made some comment about the time involved in making some of the recipes and said something like, “you’d have to stay home all the time to make these.” I looked at him and said, “DUH. That’s what I WANT to do.” By the by, I don’t think these are time intensive, for the most part. They seem fairly straightforward, some downright easy. I’m very much looking forward to digging in and having way too much fun with lots and lots of butter and chocolate. And sugar, and flour, and fruit…

Thank you for such a wonderful resource!

  • Beautiful cookies….I will be veganizing them will I make them, so please forgive my audacity.

  • p.s. LOVE the video. It made me want to cry – in a very good way! Also (I know, I’m annoying), I really loved what you said in the book that baking is about sharing. When I told my husband that I wanted to stay home and bake all of this, he said I wouldn’t fit out the door after eating all. Who said I wanted to eat it all? Most of the time I just want to make it, taste a bit, and then give it away, watching others enjoy it.

  • David,
This video is FABULOUS!! I love your blog and it’s so great to tie a voice to it. I am going to Amazon right this minute to order your book, as I’ve been waiting! Thanks for your recipes, blog, and Paris info. I look forward to taking a chocolate Paris class with you some day with my daughters.
    Merci!
    Wendy

  • I can’t wait to get this. It looks like it’s definitely a “must have”!

  • I got my copy today, after having pre-ordered it on Amazon months ago and forgotten about it! What an incredible surprise. This book came literally the day after I decided that it was time to get rid of the few pounds that crept back on after fall’s drastic lifestyle/diet change. Let’s suffice to say that my bathing suit will not look as attractive as I’d hoped come summertime. Everything looks so amazingly delicious that I ran out of Post-it flags bookmarking the recipes that I want to make immediately. I’m so excited to cook my way through this book!

  • Congratulations on the new book. Loved the video!

  • Oh David, I just love the video! I wish you had your own program! Looking forward to this book–congratulations and thank you!

  • Congratulations David!
I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this!

  • OH MY.
I am very, very excited now. Clicking over to Amazon immediately. Your desserts make my day. Now craving a really good black and white cookie…

  • Got it, read it, love it. Looked over another “important” baking book last week — if it hadn’t been so hefty it would have landed against the wall. I’d have to don shirtwaist dress, low heels, pearls and fluffy apron to produce anything from its pages. But yours! Great contents pages, terrific readable layout, enough chatter to tantalize, and doable recipes with precise direction and tips which really help. And those luscious photos, zut alors! And a helpful index, sadly deficient in most cookbooks.

Feel proud. Boast a bit. You’ve earned it. Truly, you’re a man of virtue.

  • I’ve had this in my Amazon wish list since you first mentioned it. Can’t wait to get my hands on it! Those chocolate chip cookies look fabulous, as do the other items in the collage.

  • I have your other two books out of print, which I love. I will “have” to buy this one too I guess.

Can’t wait to see it! If it is true to the your other books, it is going to be a treasure to have.

    Laura

  • Wow congrats! And next time I am in Paris, maybe I will get lucky enough to run into you giving cookies out at the Bastille! Lucky people.

  • Congratulations on this latest book.
Those chocolate chip & pecan cookies look so delicious!

I can’t wait to get my copy.
All the best to you and thank you.

  • What a great idea to make a video for us to accompany the release of your new book!
You had me at pecans, lol. Okay….. you had me months ago when I discovered your blog and read The Sweet Life in Paris!

  • Great news! I enjoyed the video, I like the way you pronounce pe-cans.

  • Love the video and can’t wait to make those fabulous desserts. I ordered the book months ago on Amazon and finally received the email that it’s coming on the 10th. I’m very excited, indeed!

  • You had me at “both standard and metric”!

And the video was “very agreeable”! lol

  • I’m with you on the importance of butter in baking and the impossibility of crossing roads in Paris…!

Love those bright spatulas, where are they from??

  • The video was very well done – I already wanted the book, but after seeing you make those cookies, I want it if only for that one cookie recipe!!!

  • David — loved the video! Will your new book be available for the iPad?

  • Congrats David! Can’t wait to get my own copy. Great video. You should do more!

  • Hey Cuz!! I was so thrilled when the mail arrived yesterday and I saw that big heavy Amazon box at the front door and I knew your book order had arrived. I almost dropped everything in getting to the kitchen to put everything down, to grab the nearest knife to rip the box tape and open the inside package of the 3–yes, you read that correctly–3 copies of the book. One for myself, and one for my daughter ( I hope she isn’t reading this) and my daughter-in-law!! I loved this video you posted for this—you should definitely do more!! We all miss you and just want to wish you all the best on your newest baby!! I have to make sure that I tell Emily to look at this today!! This looks spectacular and I can’t wait to get it splattered ( well at least start trying some new stuff in there!!)
    Love, Sandra

  • David, congratulations on your newest book! How wonderful to see you sharing American cookie culture with Parisians! I loved getting a sense of you on video and hope you’ll do more videos.

  • Patiently waiting for my copy to arrive from amazon. Thanks for continuing to inspire this Connecticut lady on my baking adventures!!

  • Congrats on the book release. Unfortunately Book Depository doesn’t ship free to India, but will try and get a copy from somewhere. Love the sound of the book, the recipes included and that cover picture…gorgeous!

  • Congratulations!

Is it bilingual in terms of measurements? US measurements tend to be a bit impenetrable to those of us used to weighing our flour and butter by the ounce rather than measuring it.

  • I just love the video, and I cannot wait for the book to be in my hands!!!! Congratulations David, you make life sweeter!!

  • Hurray! I am so proud of your new accomplishment!

  • Congrats David…I received my copy in the mail yesterday. What a gorgeous book! I have the day off today and my ice cream maker is well chilled and ready to go…will be trying your lemon frozen yogurt recipe…so glad this one is included since I found it last year online (LA Times I think?) but have lost it among the gargantuan pile of recipes sitting on my desk. Now I have a good excuse to put off the sorting for a little while longer :) Cheers!

  • is it a boy or a girl? it’s a book! congratulations :) (some card company should seriously come out w/this line)

  • oh yum. i can almost smell those chocolate chip cookies here in Sydney. love the video. very well done :-)

    Congrats Dah-veed!

  • Mazel Tov on zee book!

  • Are you planning on doing a book tour in the US and signings?
